What is aluminum profile extrusion?

Aluminum profile extrusion is a plastic processing method that presses heated aluminum alloy bars (i.e., cast bars) into the extrusion barrel and passes through a customized die outlet to form a profile with the desired cross-sectional shape.

According to product design requirements, solid profiles, hollow profiles, complex cross-section profiles, micro profiles, etc. can be produced.

1. Extrusion production process

(1) Mold design and manufacturing

Design molds according to drawings or customer samples

Molds made of high-speed steel or special alloy steel must have high wear resistance and high precision

Molds must be preheated before entering the machine to avoid thermal shock cracking

(2) Cast rod heating

Heat the alloy cast rod to about 450℃~500℃

Control temperature uniformity to ensure good metal plasticity and avoid coarse grains

(3) Extrusion molding

The cast rod is fed into the extrusion barrel and pressurized by a hydraulic extruder (common tonnage is 600T~3600T)

Aluminum flows out of the mold to form a continuous profile

The traction device pulls synchronously to ensure the straightness and surface quality of the profile

(4) Online cooling

The extruded profile needs to be cooled quickly (air cooling, water mist cooling, etc.)

Controlling the cooling rate can affect the mechanical properties and aging state of the profile

(5) Stretching and straightening

The cooled profile is prone to certain internal stress and bending

Quantitative stretching through a stretching machine to release stress, correct deformation, and improve straightness

(6) Cut to length

Fixed length cutting is performed according to order requirements, and the general tolerance can be controlled within ±0.5mm

The head and tail materials are removed and returned to the furnace for reuse

(7) Artificial tempered/natural tempered (heat treatment)

Common states are T5 and T6

Improve strength and hardness, enhance the wear resistance and load-bearing performance of the finished product


2. Extrusion equipment and capabilities

High-quality aluminum profile extrusion depends on advanced equipment and strict process control:

(1) Extruder: Common models include 600T, 1000T, 1800T, 2500T, etc., for different cross-sectional sizes and wall thickness requirements

(2) Automatic traction system: Improve extrusion efficiency and product surface quality

(3) Intelligent temperature control system: Accurately control the temperature of the casting rod and the mold to ensure the stability of metal flow

(4) Mold library and mold change system: Support rapid switching of multiple profiles
